Jesus prayed before choosing His inner circle.
Written By Maranda Kelley

The relationships we choose—friends, mentors, and close companions—hold significant influence over our spiritual growth and daily decisions. Too often, we make these choices impulsively or based on convenience, without seeking God’s guidance.
The people that we allow to be in our inner circles play very significant roles. Whether you know it or not, they have access to: influence , encourage (discourage), help (hurt), knock us off course, or keep us on. We can take notes from Jesus concerning how we should go about it.
Luke 6:12-13
“12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:”
In Luke 6:12-13, we see a profound example of Jesus prioritizing prayer before making an important decision. Before selecting His twelve disciples—those who would walk closest with Him and carry on His mission—Jesus spent the entire night in prayer. This wasn’t a casual moment or a quick decision; it was an intentional, prayerful act, rooted in seeking God’s guidance. By doing this, Jesus modeled the importance of aligning our relationships with God’s will, especially when it comes to the people who will influence our lives and purposes. His choice of disciples wasn’t based on their qualifications or societal status but on divine wisdom and God’s plan.
Every individual in your life should serve a purpose that aligns in some way with your purpose and way of life.
After reflecting on this passage of scripture, I pray you are inspired to evaluate your inner circle by considering the purpose of each connection. Anyone or anything that does not promote, encourage, or contribute to your personal growth, quality of life, or divine purpose should not have a place in your inner circle.
Pray and ask God for His guidance. He will never lead us wrong.
God bless you!
